Tamil Nadu gets flooded as a result of consistent heavy rainfall and the IMD also forecast continual rainfall on Friday. Chennai and all areas around it could be particularly affected. It has warned the IMD for Tamil Nadu, Kerala, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka due to a forming low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal.
Heavy rains continued during Tuesday night in Chennai with more showers expected in some parts of the city. The weather in the city is expected not to rise beyond 24-30 degree Celsius with partly cloudy for the next four days. Chennai schools will continue to function freely in spite of the precipitation and there are no circulating closures for November 14.
The meteorological departments predict above average rainfall in 23 districts of Tamil Nadu on Thursday particular in Cuddalore, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Puducherry, and Karaikal. The low pressure area is set to cause rainy condition up to November 16 a and it is confined to the central and southern districts of Tamil Nadu. Especially as it moves inland, coastal regions prove to be one of the most endangered ones.
The IMD extended the yellow alert for Puducherry saying that scattered heavy rainfall will occur till November 16. The northern coastal and delta districts are expected to be influenced more by rains as officials and foremost urged people to be careful.
Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin has said the state government is ready to face the heaviest rains. Efforts have been stepped up for example by providing 1,194 motor pumps and 152 super sucker machines, an improvement over the earlier figures for the month of October by 21%. “There are no reports of flooding in the metropolis,” Stalin said, adding 21 of the 22 subways in Chennai are functional. He pointed out the inspections conducted at Chennai Corporation’s Integrated Command and Control Centres to make sure that all requisite measures are set out based on the experience of the rainfall in October.
