A good turn out was witnessed during the bypolls in the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala in the year 2024 were by 11 am the polling percentage recorded by the ECI was of 27.04. As the first phase ended at 9 am, 13.04 % voter turnout was recorded. The constituency with more than 14 lakh voters was provided with 1,354 polling booths.
Election in Wayanad was carried out under adequate security, as over 2,500 security forces were provided for the election. A comprehensive web casting facility is also exist to monitored the by-election session online. There were some complains about EVMs being jammed and EC officials were quick to address this.
Wayanad’s constituency includes seven assembly segments: Such as Mananthavady (ST), Sulthan Bathery (ST), Kalpetta, Wayanad; Thiruvambady, Kozhikode; Eranad, Nilambur, Wandoor Malappuram district.
Leading an important constituency that goes to polls for the first time this election season, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is testing her political luck against BJP’s Navya Haridas and CPI(M) Sathyan Mokeri led LDF. Priyanka, during the campaign, pointed to her brother Rahul Gandhi’s stay in Wayanad as an MP, the love people here had for him, and how they had stood by him in difficult times.
The bypoll was imperative due to the fact that earlier Rahul Gandhi who won Wayanad and Rae Bareli both had decided to relinquish his seat in Wayanad. The Congress leader had won Wayanad in the 2024 elections by over 3.5 lakh votes and had over 4.3 lakh votes in 2019.
