On Friday Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar stated, ‘The chowk outside the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Sarai Kale Khan Delhi shall be named after Bhagwan Birsa Munda. They made two demands out of which Khattar said, “Bhagwan Birsa Munda is a great name for the tribal society of this country he said. To make a number of such a great personality alive in Delhi, the big hall just outside the ISBT bus stand has been named Bhagwan Birsa Munda. The particular junction has been officially named as Bhagwan Birsa Munda Chowk.
On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, the Union Home Minister Amit Shah released the statue at Baansera Park on the Ring Road. Shah said that the whole year up to November 15, 2025, would be adorned as Aadiwasi Gaurav Din. He reiterated what Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said in August 2021 tol that India would celebrate November 15 every year as “Aadiwasi Gaurav Din” on the occasion of Birsa Munda’s birthday.
“In fact, on the occasion of his 150th birth anniversary, the whole year starting from today till November 15 of next year shall be observed as Aadiwasi Gaurav Din,” Shah said. “Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s life can be viewed in two parts: One was on the representation of native American culture while the other was epitomised by his genocide in the quest for India’s liberation. This is a story that was written at the age of 25, people still recall the story after 150 years.”
The statue which was inaugurated by Shah weighed 3,000 kg and was developed by two specialists in sculpture hailing from West Bengal who depicted some liveliness in the statue.
