Recently an Indian entrepreneur posted a comment at Reddit where he suggested, “highly paid professionals” should migrate to other countries to create more value. In a long post on the r/India subreddit, he told his story from being a student at a top engineering college in India to being a postgraduate in the USA. He moved back to India in 2018 from Philippine after working for a big bank to start a well-funded own company that has 30 employees having an average annual income of ₹15 lakh.

However, the entrepreneur further noted that there is no enable environment for innovation in India because of bureaucracies, bad governance, and other barriers. ”India is a great country but not suitable for creating innovation culture,” he stated. He seized the occasion by mentioning an instance of a fraud made on his app that his company dealt with. Helping the police and returning the victim’s money was not enough and the FIR filed against his company remained open, while bribes were allegedly being demanded.

He also pointed out the regional differences and social issues explaining that he receives ‘regional hate’ at least once a week from service providers such peantuts vendors and taxi drivers. He also accused India of having low work ethic, putting emphasis on how people look like. ”If you do not look rich or wear branded clothes men are rude to you and women are harsh to you in this country,” he said.

The entrepreneur opined that the regulatory systems of the Indian economy are unfriendly for innovators due to the high level of corruption and social prejudice. He has raised questions about the prospects that are making India lose talented professionals to other countries.

Although he got mixed reactions his thoughts highlighted the challenges most CEOs go through in the Indian business and social environment. These profound self-reminiscences make it possible to talk about the need for systems changes to help maintain and develop talent in the country.
