Kuwait’s Government has awarded Prime Minister Narendra Modi the Order of Mubarak Al Kabeer to celebrate the nations 20th state honor bestowed upon the leader. This prominent knighthood founded in 1974, was named in honor of the memory of Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah, the Great who liberated Kuwait from Ottoman Empire in 1897. The honor is awarded to Heads of States, foreign kings and queens, and members of royals in a spirit of ‘friendship’.

Some previous recipients of this award are Bill Clinton, Prince Charles and George Bush. The actual receipt of the award by PM Modi during his unprecedented two-day visit Kuwait clearly reflects the growing bilateral relations of India with Kuwait. This visit is particularly important since it is the first of an Indian prime minister in 43 years – the last time was Indira Gandhi in 1981.
The recognition in Kuwait is part of several similar honours PM Modi has been receiving in the last decade. Earlier this year, Guyana awarded him the honours, The Order of Excellence while Barbados awarded him the Honorary Order of Freedom. They also declared . Dominica Award of Honour for the Indian Prime Minister.

The constant addition to this list is a testimony to Pathan’s observation that Modi is a leader of the international level. That is Russia’s Order of St. Andrew the Apostle, United State’s Legion of Merit, Saudi Arabia’s Order of Abdulaziz Al Saud and UAE’s Order of Zayed.
