Vodafone Group has cleared dues of ₹11,650 crore (around 109 million pounds) paid against shares pledged by it in Vodafone Idea (VIL). HSBC Corporate Trustee Company (UK) had been secured by the group’s nearly full stake in VIL for the debt and the group had pledged nearly its entire stake in VIL. HSBC issued the pledges after payments to clear Vodafone Promoter Shareholders’ outstanding dues on 27 December 2024. As a result of this, indirect encumbrances were released on 22.56 per cent of VIL’s equity shares and worth ₹11,649 crore based on VIL stock price of ₹7.47 per share on the same day.

As of now, Vodafone Group has 22.56% stake in VIL, Aditya Birla Group has 14.76% and Indian govt 23.15%. However, the stock of VIL saw a rise of 1.20% on December 28 to ₹7.56 but has been quite volatile lately — down by 1.69% over the past week. It looks like it’s recovering, but still fluctuating.
