Political Controversy Over Amritsar Landings
Repeated landings of deportation aircraft in Amritsar have given rise to political debate. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has criticized the Central Government for choosing Amritsar airport as the primary landing site, alleging that it creates a false perception that most deportees are from Punjab. He called it a “deliberate effort at defaming the state”.
The problem has attracted much attention, raising the debate around the effects of illegal immigration laws and their implications for the future of deported returnee populations in India.
