The Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced the ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan Convention’, major public event to be held on December 27 in Belagavi. Addressing a press conference Shivakumar said that the event is very relevant as is is a centenary of mahatma gandhi attending congress session in the city in 1924.
The CWC meeting will be held at least in the same 80- acre piece of land where the young Gandhi used to preside at the Gandhi well. The Congress sitting will be presided over by the party’s president Mallikarjun Kharge.
The key activities in the context of the Gujarat tourism involved the unvieling of a statue of Mahatma Gandhi, inauguration of ‘Khadi Mela’ and reprinting and release of the report of the convention of 1924. Further, a Gangadhar Deshpande Memorial and photo gallery will also be installed and dedicated.
Shivakumar detailed the program timeline, noting that on December 27, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge will unveil the Gandhi statue at Suvarna Soudha at 10:30 AM. This event will comprise a mega public meeting to be held at 1 PM with the support of CM Siddaramaiah ,Speaker U.T. Khader and Council Chairman Basvaraj Horatti.
Speaking on what he thought about the event, Shivakumar stated that all political leaders including those from the BJP have been invited as it is non political event meant to honor the spirit of Gandhiji, the Constitution among others. Belagavi city lights up for the centennial with sevadal volunteers followed by cwc members on a padayatra.
Countering concerns of who invited whom, Shivakumar said BJP MP Jagadish Shettar will be given a red-carpet treatment stating that Congress is committed to paying tribute to Gandhiji without any help from the Centre.
“This is in honour of Gandhiji and what he has done for this country and which is in the Congress’ interest to continue upholding.” he said.
