India head coach Gautam Gambhir spoke to reporters on Rohit Sharma’s no-show at the pre-match press conference in Sydney. “The head coach is here. That should be enough,” Gambhir dismissed the worries. He also avoided the pre-match interactions before the Brisbane Test saying that he was not present for an optional training session at Gabba.
The Form Of Rohit In Question
Rohit has been a let-down, scoring only 10.93 in his last nine Test matches and 6.2 in this series so far. He was late for Thursday’s voluntary practice session, in which all the players participated. Shubman Gill, who was omitted for the Melbourne Test, was on the ground the earliest to hit the nets at SCG.
Light Training Session
On Thursday, Rohit was involved in the session for only a few minutes, playing foot volleyball before receiving some throw downs in a 40-over batting practice. By then, other key batters had finished their practice session. Although there were some positives in Melbourne, where he managed to survive for an hour against the Australian bowling line-up, Rohit perished trying to play a reckless flick shot which was caught at gully.
Retirement Speculation
Further increasing the drama around the series, there is some buzz suggesting Rohit may retire after the Sydney Test. It has been rumored that this could be his last ever match, the time he selected and place he occupies in the team during the later series has come into query.
Rohit’s Perspective
In Brisbane Rohit accepted that he is out of touch but at the same time said that he is fine with his physical fitness. ”Well, it doesn’t matter as long as my head, my body and my feet are fit for the track,” he said earlier.
More often, the debate regarding Rohit Sharma’s performance and his future continues, the major points stay centered on the player’s capability to perform in the subsequent Test match in Sydney and further on his career trajectory.
