A Congress leader, Priyanka Gandhi vadra condemned BJP member Ramesh Bidhuri defaming her by comparing cheeks with smooth roads in Kalkaji. Refusing to accept the comment as genuine, she said that the issues rather than such a comment should define the discourse during assembly polls in Delhi.
Bidhuri, BJP’s candidate from Kalkaji had said during campaigning that if voted to power, he would pave roads as smooth as Gandhi’s cheeks. This brought criticism from the public which forced him to apologetic later on. Priyanka Gandhi, and then, in a lighter vein, said, I do not recall he mentioning his cheeks,’ and in another barb, reinforcing the demand for serious discussions, especially during the poll seasons.
Bidhuri is actually in the fray against the AAP’s Atishi who is also the Delhi Chief Minister. Priyanka Gandhi has claimed that such comments affect issues in the actual political campaigns and which are important for Delhi’s voters.
