Apple’s indicated that the next iOS 18.2 update should be coming this early December with improved support for Apple Intelligence (AI) capabilities after they’ve released iOS 18.1. It will incorporate ChatGPT into Siri, Genmoji, and Image Playground writing additional vibrant expression and AI capabilities.
According to a report by 9to5Mac, Apple may introduce an unannounced feature to iOS 18.2 that hasn’t appeared in the developer or public beta versions: Battery Intelligence. This feature was found to be embedded in the code of the iOS 18.2 beta 2 update to serve iPhone users’ purpose of giving an estimate of the time available to fully charge their battery or to achieve the intended battery level.
At the moment, iPhones show power in percentage and there is no approximate amount of time that is left for the device to be charged. To achieve this the new feature is meant to help user understand better charging durations in a bid to improve on the power management aspect.
The update will also enhance additional battery health features, which was first released in iOS 18. Users will have the ability to apply maximum charge limit to their devices to, for instance, charge only up to 80% or 85% or 90% or 95%, instead of charging their devices to full. This flexibility will allow the longevity of the battery to be retained as long as desired. Furthermore, this system will inform users if a slow charger is connected thus giving users more information about charging conditions.
These updates certainly point to Apple’s focus on user-oriented improvements, and, marking all the enhancements covered as optional, it is expected that all the features to be highlighted will be rolled out as a part of the iOS 18.2 public release scheduled for December, 2024.
