The winter session of Parliament begins today and will continue until December 20 and the centre has a number of important bills slated to clear it. The Waqf Act (Amendment) Bill; the Mussalman Wakf (Repeal) Bill; Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak and many of such key bills as the Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill; Railways (Amendment) Bill; Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill; Finance (No 2) Bill etc. Sessions are coming up on where these bills will be introduced, discussed, and passed.
Sittings will not be taking place on November 26 in observance of Constitution Day.
Opposition leaders of INDIA bloc will meet here at 10 am today ahead of the session to finalize their strategy. On other issues like Waqf Bill, Manipur situation and now Adani Group, opposition parties such as Congress are expected to raise their issues. Congress MP; Leader of Opposition to the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge will be instrumental in defining the opposition stand on these subjects.
Parliamentary affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that the government is ready to discuss any topic. After an all party meeting of 42 leaders from 30 political parties, Rijiju said he hopes for a productive and harmonious session of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. But he added it was already a busy, and possibly fractious, session given that many parties had asked to have discussions on different issues.
