After 27 years, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is again to form government in Delhi as Rekha Gupta is about to be sworn in as the Chief Minister, at a big ceremony in Ramlila Maidan, on Thursday. Gupta, who was elected to lead the legislative party on Wednesday evening, when a meeting of the BJP MLAs was held to make a decisive decision, finally presented herself in a bid to fulfill the role of the Chief Minister.
The oath taking ceremony will be administered by the Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, which is a momentous occasion in the political horizon of Delhi. The meeting is reportedly to draw the attention of the top-rung politicians such as the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, Home Minister, Amit Shah, BJP President, JP Nadda and many chief Ministers of BJP-governed states.
Tight Security Arrangements for the Ceremony
Because of the high profile of the event, security arrangements are large scale. More than 25,000 security personnel will be stationed in and around Ramlila Maidan.
“We have ensured foolproof security arrangements with the entire Central District police force deployed. Additional DCPs from other districts, along with 15 DCP-level officers, will oversee the event’s law and order situation,” said Special CP Law Order, Ravindra Singh Yadav.
Traffic advisories have also been issued by Delhi Police in anticipation of high footfall. Authorities have advised people to make travel arrangements in advance to avoid disruption.

- 12:31 PM: Official commencement of the oath ceremony.
- 12:35 PM: L-G administers the oath to Rekha Gupta as Delhi’s Chief Minister.
- 12:45 PM: Oath-taking ceremony for newly appointed cabinet ministers.
- 12:59 PM: National Anthem marks the conclusion of the event.
- 1:00 PM: Dignitaries disperse from the venue.
High-Profile Guests and Special Invitees
The BJP has invited an estimated 30,000 guests, including political bigwigs, spiritual masters, industrialists, media personalities, auto wallahs, farmers and officials of Laddli Bahana scheme. Senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) functionaries are also expected to be present.
BJP workers and leaders from across the country, who played a role in the Delhi Assembly elections, have been invited as well. Outgoing Chief Minister Atishi and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal will also be invited, as per protocol.

Rekha Gupta assuming charge is historic in that it brings the BJP back to the Delhi after more than three decades. With the reins in her grasp, the watchword is how her administration will deal with critical issues such as infrastructure, air and water pollution and public works. A sweeping mandate and a spectacular oath-taking ceremony under immense public eyes and political oversights will initiate her leadership.
