Punjab Youth Nishan Singh Recounts Ordeal After Deportation from US

Kapurthala native Nishan Singh spent six months suffering from starvation while enduring physical injuries and reports of electric shock treatment before arriving in the US during this year only to receive deportation back to India. Nishan’s journey brought financial devastation to his family because they spent Rs 40 lakh while he spent six months facing incredible hardships between France and the US.

The citizen of Chakoki village Nishan began his journey to France during 2022 by paying agents Rs 45 lakh for US travel. Human traffickers deserted him together with 150 others in the middle of the jungle. Nishan described the situation where human traffickers physically assaulted them while taking their phones, clothing and food. We had to search for our own route to the police while enduring sixteen days of terrible conditions.

The problems worsened for Nishan when his family could not secure further payments to pay his debts. His lower limb suffered damage but medical services were denied to him. According to him the criminals threatened family members specifically targeting his father while forcing electric shocks onto his body. The detention camp staff told him about his deportation after he arrived there for the first time on January 25.

Families Reluctant to Speak Out

The travel of Manpreet from Miani village to his destination occurred without media discussions yet his uncle Varinder Pal disclosed that deportees were seen without turbans before flight boarding.

Family members remain disturbed by the deportation process thus they avoid speaking about it. Media personnel who approached returned migrants encountered closed doors together with silence from residents during their house visits. These migrant victims show the challenging experience of unauthorized immigration because it forces them to use up their life savings and cause severe suffering to their young men who hope for a better existence.
