Nagpur, Maharashtra: A huge blast shook an ordnance factory in the district of Bhandara in the state of Maharashtra on Thursday morning claimed eight worker lives and left seven others injured. In the first operations of rescue, three alive workers were discovered followed by a deceased body being extracted from the debris. The impact of the blast was so great that it was acoustically recorded up to 5 km. Observers claimed to have heard a loud noise and a thick fog of smoke originating from the factory. A video recorded from a distance captured the grim aftermath, showing smoke billowing into the sky.
The explosion caused a general collapse of the roof, and a few of the workers got stuck. The rescue operation was quick, but arduous because of the nature of the debris and the extent of damage,” a senior official stated.
Swift Response and Assurances
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis raised an alarm over the incident and assured that the highest level officials were overseeing the rescue operations. Response teams from Nagpur were sent immediately on rescue and relief operation, and medical crews were kept on standby for carrying out necessary medical care to the injured.
