Three more Maoists reportedly died in the same firing taking the toll in the current operation to fourteen in total. The operation carried out by Odisha police, Chhattisgarh police and CRPF has also led to the deaths of two women Maoists on Monday.
A senior officer said the encounter was during the night and early morning last week at the Kularighat reserve forest in Chhattisgarh, which is merely 5 km from Odisha’s Nuapada district.
In a statement, the Odisha Police confirmed the casualties and said that twelve more Maoists died in an encounter with Special Operations Group (SOG) team in the on-going joint inter-state operation.
The senior official also noted that the death toll might increase as the operation continues on. During the operation excess of weapons and bullets were recovered by the authorities.
This successful crackdown profile the coordination roles of both the state and central security agencies in the fight against left wing extremism in the region. Police are still keeping an eye on the area as the operations ramp up.
