India has made a big jump forward in developing its air combat capability by making a public showing of a full-sized model of the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) at Aero India 2025. On display at the India Pavilion, this is a public unveiling of India’s own fifth-generation stealth fighter aircraft, demonstrating India’s increasing self-sufficiency in defence technology.
Developed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), the AMCA is a twin-engine, multi-role stealth fighter designed to meet the operational needs of the Indian Air Force. Weighing 25 tons, it ranks among the most advanced fighter jets in its category. The aircraft has advanced technologies including an intelligent electronic pilot for complex decision making, Netcentric Warfare Systems for tactical command and control, an internal weapon bay for improved stealth, and an Integrated Vehicle Health Management system with predictive maintainability (pm).
A key highlight of AMCA’s development is the integration of artificial intelligence, which will enhance situational awareness, automate threat detection, and assist pilots in complex combat scenarios. The AI-based system will further facilitate remote and unattended control with Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. With such capabilities, AMCA is intended to thrust India into one of the forefront global air combat superpowers.
US Participation at Aero India 2025
Aero India 2025 has seen strong international participation, with the United States showcasing a range of advanced aircraft and defence technologies. A number of American exhibitors are in discussions within India to find business opportunities in the area of aviation and defence, etc. A high-level US delegation, including US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Jorgan Andrews and General Kevin Schneider, Commander of the US Pacific Air Forces, is attending the event.
Defence relations between the US and India have grown since the 2023 Aero India edition, with which increased trade, technology sharing, and collaborative efforts in regions, including cybersecurity, logistics, and maritime security, are associated. Speaking at the ceremony, General Schneider underscored the significance of the collaboration, indicating that Storming of Aero India 2025 provides one of the principal forums for improving interoperability and military cooperation among countries.
Showcase of Advanced Aircraft and Cultural Events
Visitors to Aero India 2025 will witness a display of advanced US defence technology, including F-16 and F-35 fighter jets, the KC-135 Stratotanker, and the B-1 bomber. These aircraft represent some of the most sophisticated capabilities in modern aerial warfare and air refueling operations.
Besides technology demonstration, the United States Air Force Band of the Pacific, a 10-person group called Final Approach, will give a performance during Aero India on February 13 and 14. The band is also lined up for an exclusive show at Christ University, Bengaluru, which will create cultural context to the event.
India’s Growing Defence Capabilities
The unveiling of the AMCA highlights India’s commitment to developing indigenous defence technology and enhancing its air combat strength. Drawing on partnerships across the globe and innovation in military aviation, India remains a driving force in global defence innovation. Aero India 2025 is an important venue to encourage strategic partnerships and present the state of the art in aerospace technology.
