The world’s religious procession of the 45-day old Mahakumbh Mela which takes place on grand scale reached its climax last night at the Triveni Sangam of Prayagraj, on the day of Mahashivaratri. The final day of the sacred event witnessed a massive turnout of 1.53 crore (15.3 million) devotees, bringing the total pilgrim count to an unprecedented *66.30 crore (663 million), according to official figures released by the government.
Spectacular Flypast and Flower Showers
During the grand finale, the Indian Air Force (IAF) planned breathtaking flypast over the Sangam sky on Wednesday afternoon. Fighter planes and transport aircraft flew overhead as pilgrims, as did the concluding rituals of the Mahakumbh, offering a majestic aspect to them.
Additionally, helicopters showered 120 quintals of rose petals over the devotees gathered at the Sangam, symbolizing a divine blessing. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath closely monitored the event’s progress from a control room in Gorakhpur. Security and administrative personnel remained on high alert to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the festival.
