The new outbreak of the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in China is raising concern, with people referring to it as another covid. HMPV, a respiratory virus that symptoms resemble the flu, is invading China’s hospitals at this moment. But Indian health experts are quick to point out there is nothing to fear, the virus is easily identifiable and, generally, is a mild form of infection.
As noted Dr Suresh Gupta pediatrician Sir Ganga Ram hospital New Delhi; HMPV was identified for over 20 years. This occurs most often in winter and is transmitted like the flu virus. They include cold, cough, fever, which are mild in nature and can be managed at home. However, severe cases that would necessitate hospitalization are very few, particularly in children.”
Backing this view up, the Senior Consultant of Chest Medicine at the same hospital Dr. Bobby Bhalotra, said that HMPV has previously been identified in India, specifically during the winter season. He said, “The strain identified in India mostly causes symptoms akin to viral fever.”
As cases were growing in China, India’s Union Health Ministry give a Joint Monitoring Group meeting. Authorities elaborated that this increase in China is due to Influenza viruses, Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), and Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), which are viruses usually seen in this season.
The ministry sought to calm the public by pointing out that India already possesses surveillance in forms of ILI and SARI. The monitoring networks under ICMR and IDSP are capable to identify and manage these iilnesses.
Moreover, ICMR will enhance the laboratory diagnostic performance and trend of HMPV in the country. am-reserving Until they are put into practice, both preventive methods do not threaten the lives of citizens of India at present, according to specialists.
