To this end, the government wants to utilize AI and other advance technologies for tracking the traffic violations and bolster the penalties, said Mr Nitin Gadkari, Union minister on Thursday. Addressing the 12th Traffic InfraTech Expo, Gadkari talked about the plans to revamp toll management systems including the consideration of satellite toll systems to address both the issues of effectiveness and integrity.
Confident in the need for high-level engineering, the minister stressed the need for strict compliance with the law and new technologies, including AI. He said that it would be involving experts from the private sector to come up with technological solutions that will help alleviate problems of road safety.
An independent professional committee will consider applications of startups and industry leaders and choose the most efficient solutions for further introduction. Gadkari said this committee would do assessments within three months to fast-track positive changes in the sector.
The minister made it very clear that the government remains focused on continuing to ensure that whatever surveillance solutions used were of the highest quality, regardless of the size of the supplies firm, he encouraged small firms that are involved in supply of such solutions to come forward to be part of the government tendering process. He also insisted on profitability being reasonable for both the manufacturer and the seller.
Gadkari appealed for integrating the government with the private players and start-ups to address heinous challenges of the road safety in India. He gave more statistic indicating the south asian people suffering from roads accidents saying that the figure is averagely 5 lakh annually resulting to numerous death notably among the citizen between the age of 18-36 years.
About the costs of road accidents, Gadkari said they stand at about 3 percent of India’s GDP, he said. Maintaining high levels of road safety is still one of the priorities of the government, and several steps are being taken to address this very problem.
