New Delhi: The ECI has taken necessary action to ensure there is no case of favoritism during the forthcoming Delhi Assembly elections. Through a public notification at a press conference today, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar declared plans to commence the polling for the 70-member assembly on February 5 and count the votes on February 8.
During the election period, the ECI will have to write a letter to the Cabinet Secretary stating the essence of not permitting any measure, relating to Delhi alone, which impact the electoral process, to be incorporated in the Union Budget. The much anticipated Union Budget to be tabled before the commencement of polls has, however, given a cause of concern about disruption of equal business opportunity.
They added that the nomination for candidates will close on January 17 while scrutiny of the nomination will be done on January 18. Nominees must withdraw by January 20.
Delhi and in addition there are by-elections for two assembly seats: Milkipur in Uttar Pradesh and Erode in Tamil Nadu included in the similar schedule.
Such measures shows that the ECI is more inclined towards making polluting of democracy free and fair while remaining neutral and open in the election process.
