A cold wave is still in force in northern India and the IMD has put out warnings for Himachal Pradesh and West Rajasthan. Isolated areas of West Rajasthan are likely to witness severe cold wave on December 20 and 21 whereas Himachal Pradesh witnesses same on December 19 and will continue till December 23.
Minimum temperatures in Delhi was down at 7°C on Friday along with thick fog. AQI was sustained in ‘severe’ zone and recorded 434, the CPCB added.
Now there is very dense fog in the Sambhal area of Uttar Pradesh and drop in the temperature forecast for 26°C (maximum) and 10°C (minimum) comes on the cards. The Punjab province is under cold wave warning for today December 20, 2014 while a few districts will receive such weather on December 21-22.
The IMD also expects a cold wave between December 19 and 25 in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad. Haryana & Chandigarh will also be on similar nixer from December 19 to 21, similarly Himachal Pradesh may receive another wave on December 24 to 25.
There will be mainly dry weather in Jammu and Kashmir until December 26th, though as expected light snow is possible above 2000 Metres on December 21st/22nd as well as on December 27th/28th.
At the present time, there is a dry climate in Himachal Pradesh. But, another active western disturbance is likely to induced around December 27- 28 that cause snow at higher regions and rainfall at the lower and mid hilly tracts.
In a statement to the newspaper, Katiyar, Senior Scientist with IMD Himachal Pradesh, said that the department expects snow at above 1200 meters and ‘likely medium-snow at the hill stations’. It remains under observation and we well provide details as we progress closer to the dates.”
The IMD also advises people to dress for the cold and keep abreast of weather alerts across their locations.
