The BJP has finally announced its first list of 29 candidates to contest in the Delhi Assembly elections which are to be held in February. This has come as a major milestone in the Gallagher Cup fight against AAP which recently released its list for all 70 constituencies.
For instance, BJP candidate Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma is to challenge AAP convenor and ex-Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi seat. Kailash Gehlot who recently crossed over from AAP to BJP will try his luck from Bijwasan. Delhi will vote in the MCD elections today as the BJP tries to defend several of its sitting MLAs, one of them being South Delhi’s Ramesh Bidhuri, a former Member of Parliament, who will fight against AAP’s current Chief Minister Atishi and Congress’ Alka Lamba in Kalkaji.
Lovely is a Congress leader who switched to BJP and is installed in the Gandhinagar seat, which is a step showing the party’s desire to deepen its bench with veteran politicians.
The BJP is challenged by AAP that has been the ruling party in Delhi since 2015 and has won successive Assembly polls in the national capital. Still the BJP has been dominating Delhi in Lok sabha elections, that also all seven parliamentary seats from 2014 onwards.
On the other hand there are reports which deny earlier stories that Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva will not contest the elections.
Peculiarly, while Congress is part of INDIA opposition block, Congress and AAP compete to each other, which they did in Haryana vote last year. The Indian Congress that used to be a powerhouse in Delhi has failed to secure an Assembly seat in the last two general polls.
This imminent election will be another tough contest between BJP and AAP while Congress will struggle to come back into reckoning in Delhi.
