Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who had to suspends his election campaign in Maharashtra following the attack, is going to hold another meeting with the top MHA officials on Monday as he grapples to assess the security scenario in Manipur.
The state saw a great deal of violence in some areas of the Imphal Valley on Saturday, particularly after the killing of women and children whose bodies were found dumped in the streets, later in the day several houses belonging to some of the MLAs were burnt down. On Sunday, Shah summed up the situation and ordered MHA officials to take all measures to restore order in the region.
The home ministry said security forces have been told maintain peace and calm as the states security situation remains sensitive. Terrorists from these two groups have persisted to display acts of hostility that has caused the loss of dear lives, and interference with orderly conduct in the society. The ministry added that, “It should be noted that any person interested in engaging in violence or confrontation will be dealt with severely.”
Officials said BJP MLAs will be joining Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh at his residence at six this evening to assess the situation. This meeting comes after the National People’s Party CONG led by Conrad Sangma pulled out support from the BJP led government in manipur due to what it described as inability of The Chief Minister to address the violence. It is evidently true that the current conflict primarily between the Meitei and the Kuki-Zo communities has adversely impacted the normal living of people.
