Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor, acclaimed for his work, continues to have box office troubles. His new movie, Deva, came with much hope but it did not become resonant with viewers. Despite being an action-packed cop thriller, the film has underperformed significantly and is now on the verge of wrapping up its theatrical run with underwhelming numbers.

Deva is having a hard time holding down the box office when the newly released Chhaava on February 14, 2025 comes out. Based on the estimates, the film will complete its global theatrical screening with an overall collection of Rs 59 crore. Out of this, around Rs 42 crore will come from the Indian market, contributing to a net collection of Rs 35 crore, while the remaining Rs 17 crore will be from overseas territories.
With respect to a well-funded Shahid Kapoor film, these are disappointing figures. The film is now quite definitely a flop, so another blow for the actor in the time since the pandemic.
Another Remake Failure for Shahid Kapoor
This drawback is more disheartening given that Deva was Shahid Kapoor’s comeback film in action genre after the massive success of Kabir Singh. Unfortunately, the film could not recreate the magic, falling into the category of remakes that audiences have been rejecting lately.
The pattern is concerning, as Shahid’s previous theatrical release, Jersey (2022), also underperformed despite critical acclaim. Remarkably, both Jersey and Deva were remakes, which could have led to a lackluster reaction. With Deva failing to make an impact, all eyes are now on Shahid Kapoor’s next project. The actor will appear in Vishal Bhardwaj’s new gangster action drama, tentatively titled Arjun Ustara.
This film is expected to feature an ensemble cast and promises to deliver intense action sequences with Bhardwaj’s signature storytelling. Scheduled for release on December 5, 2025, Arjun Ustara could be a turning point for Shahid Kapoor, helping him bounce back from his recent box office disappointments.
