New Delhi: Popular comedian Kapil Sharma recently became the latest celebrity to receive a death threat via email, this time allegedly from Pakistan. This episode is part of a disturbing trend of celebrities such as Rajpal Yadav, Sugandha Mishra, and Remo D’Souza suffering such an attack.

Threat Email Details

According to police, the email originated from Pakistan and contained alarming language. The sender, who signed off as “BISHNU,” claimed to be monitoring Kapil Sharma’s activities and urged him to treat the message with seriousness and confidentiality.

The email read, “This is not a publicity stunt or an attempt to harass you. We are asking you to handle this message very seriously and secretly.1* The sender requested a reply within 8 hours with a threat of serious adverse personal and professional repercussions should he/she fail to comply.

A FIR has been lodged at Amboli Police Station for offence under BNS Act, section 351(3). The police have launched an investigation into the matter.

A Pattern of Threats

Kapil Sharma’s case is not an isolated incident. Several celebrities have faced similar threats in recent months:

Sugandha Mishra and Remo D’Souza also went to the Amboli Police with the same email after they received the email, along with a complaint, as well.

Actor Rajpal Yadav also faced the same menace on December 14, 2018. However, he noticed the email only three days later as it had been flagged as spam. Subsequently, he lodged a complaint with the Amboli Police as well as the cybercrime unit.

Recalling the incident, Rajpal Yadav has issued an audio message in NDTV, saying:.

“I have reported a grievance to Amboli Police Station and the cyber crime unit. After that, I haven’t discussed it with anyone. I am an artist and my goal is to amuse the crowd. The agencies will provide updates on these matters. ”

Mumbai Police on High Alert

The Mumbai Police are acting upon these complaints with elan, especially when it is seen that celebrities are becoming frequent targets, now. Given the way in which the city has experienced a series of high-profile attacks, the police have not excluded organized crime/the local gangs as suspects.

Previous High-Profile Incidents

Mumbai has suffered a string of alarming events affecting celebrities and public personalities:.

  • Baba Siddique’s Murder: Politician, Baba Siddique, was killed in October of last year by way of a shooting outside his Bandra home. Murder of his body was held by incarcerated gangster Lawrence Bishnoi gang’s gang.
  • Salman Khan’s Heightened Security: After the threat from the Bishnoi gang, actor Salman Khan has fortified his personal security. This included installing bullet-proof windows at his residence.
  • Saif Ali Khan’s Stabbing Incident: Just last week, Saif Ali Khan was attacked at his Bandra home during the early hours of Thursday. The actor was stabbed six times, suffering grave injuries. Doctors of Lilavati Hospital extracted a 2.5-inch knife stuck in the wound of the patient.

Despite the ordeal, Saif Ali Khan returned home on Tuesday evening (January 21). He waved at onlooking fans and paparazzi outside his home and expressed appreciation for their concern. The actor, besides, also made time to see Bhajan Singh Rana, an auto driver, who brought him to the hospital after the assault.

Rising Concerns

The repeated attacks and threats upon public officials have been alarming, to the public, and to law enforcement agencies. If celebrity is being targeted again and again, the police will accelerate their investigation, in order to make their roadblocks reach to the network involved in these attacks and dismantle it.

Authorities have also requested celebrities to report suspicious behavior promptly and take appropriate measures. Mumbai public figures have been told to take more personal security steps to protect themselves.

As the investigation unfolds, fans and the general public are hopeful to see swift action to deal with such threats and to see culprits dealt with in a fair manner.
