Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has responded to the movie The Sabarmati Report which looks at the events preceding the 2002 Godhra train burning incident. Speaking about the film which depicted details of the event, PM Modi said that the reality was unveiled, and a fake story cannot last long.

“It is good that this truth is coming out, and that too in a way common people can see it. Film featuring Vikrant Massey is superb,” Modi said.

Modi’s comments derive from a post by Alok Bhatt on X (formerly Twitter). The movie has been applauded by Bhatt in detail, wherein he terms The Sabarmati Report as one for which everyone needs to watch and regard the efforts of the filmmakers to deal with the tragic of 2002 where 59 people lost their lives including women and children.

Well said. It is good that this truth is coming out, and that too in a way common people can see it.

A fake narrative can persist only for a limited period of time. Eventually, the facts will always come out! https://t.co/8XXo5hQe2y

The effort is especially praiseworthy because by doing so it reveals the significant truth of one of the most disgraceful episodes in our recent history. The makers of the film handled this issue with a lot of sensitivity and dignity and that is an A besides,” Bhatt said.

He also discussed the broader implications of the event, highlighting the political manipulation that ensued: “The ‘‘brutal burning of passengers of the Sabarmati Express was sensationalised into a political cricket ball thrown at a particular leader by a self-serving Interest group’’. Their ecosystem spread one deceit after another at the expense of their agenda.”

Bhatt concluded, “Finally, 59 innocent victims got to speak for themselves.” Truth alone triumphs. This movie is a perfect way to honor and remember 59 innocent people – men, women, and children – who we lost that February morning.

The Sabarmati Report is a film directed by Dheeraj Sarna which was released on the November 15 and stars Vikrant Massey in an important role rehearsing the event that led to riots all over Gujarat.
