OM Birla re-elected as Speaker of Lok Sabha The announcement was made by Pro-tem Speaker B Mahtab after the Opposition, which had nominated Congress MP Kodikunnil Suresh, did not press for voting. The motion was moved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi who expressed confidence in Birla’s leadership and lauded his previous tenure. Escorted by Modi and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju as well as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Birla took his seat in the Speaker’s chair. He portrayed the record of work done in his constituency by Birla, and compared it to Congress leader Mrs. Balram Jakhar (the last incumbent Speaker before he took over) who also won shares of fistful-of-votes margins for the second time.
